NSW Premier Mike Baird and the Minister for Local Government Paul Toole announced 19 new councils in NSW commencing 12 May 2016.
Administrators have been appointed to integrate the functions of the new councils. New councils will also be expected to maintain and improve upon previous levels of service provision for planning and assessment matters.
We have developed Guidance for merged councils on planning functions to help councils maintain the delivery of planning services during this transition.
The manual also helps new councils look for improvements in providing planning functions to local communities.
A simple flow chart giving an overview of the planning proposal process for new councils is also available.
Administrators will not be exhibiting or finalising new principal local environmental plans. Administrators will also not be making final decisions on whether community lands should be reclassified for other uses, these matters will determined by the Department.
