Austral and Leppington North

Priority growth areas and precincts

Austral and Leppington North are part of the South West Priority Land Release Area. We are working with local councils, agencies and communities to help provide new homes in the south west of Sydney that are close to jobs, parks, schools and services.

Overview

The department worked closely with Liverpool City Council, Camden Council, stakeholders and the community to take a coordinated approach to planning for new homes and essential infrastructure, to help meet community needs in Austral and Leppington North.

Releasing land for housing means Sydneysiders will have access to a range of homes that suit different needs, budgets and lifestyle choices. It also helps to place downward pressure on housing prices.

The new revitalised community at Austral and Leppington North will benefit from up to 17,350 new homes and the delivery of local amenities close to transport options, including:

  • new Major Centre
  • the new Leppington station
  • three neighbourhood centres
  • 220 ha of employment land
  • 135 ha of open space and recreation areas
  • upgrades to major roads
  • new primary and high schools
  • protection of significant vegetation, and major creek corridors
  • improved connections to encourage walking and cycling.

The proposed major centre will provide the growing South West community with access to jobs, shopping, entertainment, community and government services.

Precinct plan

Following extensive consultation, the draft plan was finalised in March 2013 and new planning controls were introduced to enable urban development.

For more information about zoning and current planning controls please contact Liverpool City Council on 02 9821 9222 or Camden Council on 02 4654 7777.
