The Carlton and United Breweries (CUB) site is a 5.8-hectare disused industrial site on the western edge of the Sydney CBD, close to Central Station.

The NSW Government has approved an $800 million concept plan to transform the former brewery site into a vibrant new precinct with office space, apartments and a 5,400 square metre community park.

The approved concept plan provides for:

  • the retention and adaptive reuse of 29 historic buildings on the site;
  • new commercial space for up to 4,800 workers and homes for up to 2,800 new residents;
  • a network of streets and lanes reintegrating the site into the wider community; and
  • $23 million towards affordable housing in Redfern-Waterloo.

Individual development applications will be required before construction can commence on each stage of the redevelopment and a design quality panel will be established to ensure all future development on the site is of a suitably high standard.
