Region plans
Region plans translate State priorities into place-based strategies. They identify where and when growth should occur, including new homes, jobs and infrastructure.
Each plan sets a 20-year vision for land use, housing, infrastructure, employment and environmental outcomes.
Region plans:
- translate State priorities into regional land use responses and actions
- guide the sequencing of development and infrastructure delivery
- align growth with infrastructure provision
- support coordinated delivery across State agencies, councils and other delivery partners.
Region plans are reviewed and updated every 5 years to ensure they remain relevant and responsive to changing needs and opportunities.
Draft Illawarra Shoalhaven Plan
We’ve drafted a new Illawarra Shoalhaven Plan to guide the region’s growth through to 2046. The draft Illawarra Shoalhaven Plan was on exhibition on the NSW Planning Portal from 31 July to 28 September 2026.
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. We’re currently reviewing and considering this feedback before finalising the plan later this year.
The region plans listed below remain in effect while new region plans are developed.
