Camellia-Rosehill set for revitalisation
Camellia-Rosehill is one step closer to being transformed into a thriving precinct with new jobs, housing, and entertainment on the banks of the Parramatta River.
NSW Department of Planning and Environment Executive Director of Metro Central and North Alison McLaren said the work to rezone the precinct will now begin following the finalisation of the Camellia- Rosehill Place Strategy.
“This updated place strategy paves the way for up to 15,400 jobs and 10,000 new homes for around 24,000 people on the doorstep of the incoming Stage 1 of the Parramatta Light Rail, which will be just an eight-minute journey to the Parramatta CBD,” Ms McLaren said.
“It features a new town centre, plenty of open space, cycling and pedestrian paths, schools, better transport connections, renewable energy networks, and a vibrant 18-hour entertainment hub for residents and visitors to enjoy.
“This 320-hectare vision will breathe new life into Camellia-Rosehill over the next 20 years by building on its rich industrial past and its most important asset – the Parramatta River.”
Community feedback helped shape the precinct’s future, informing decisions to improve access to an increased amount of public open space.
“We have listened and responded by including improved access and more open space near the town centre and along the Parramatta River foreshore,” Ms McLaren said.
“Proposed road upgrades are being investigated, such as a new bridge connection across the Parramatta River and better transport links to the M4 Motorway.
“Western Sydney is going from strength to strength, and this is just another example of our commitment to putting economic growth, housing supply and job security at the forefront of decision- making.”
A draft proposal to rezone the site in line with the Place Strategy will now be prepared and then exhibited for further community feedback.
