Wollongong is rapidly growing and changing, attracting public and private investment to increase housing supply and choice, deliver new employment opportunities, and improve public spaces, infrastructure and services.
The emerging Wollongong Health Precinct plays an important role in contributing to this growth. The NSW Government is developing a place-based strategy to outline the future vision for the Wollongong Health Precinct and guide ongoing growth in the area.
Place-based strategies are focused on protecting and enhancing the unique values of a place as it grows and changes. Public engagement is fundamental to this process, to ensure development aligns with community values and aspirations.
Shaping the Wollongong Health Precinct Strategy
The Shaping Wollongong Health Precinct Strategy (PDF, 6.5 MB) discussion paper is an important early step in shaping the future of the Wollongong Health Precinct.
The discussion paper was developed by the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure in collaboration with NSW Health, Transport for NSW, and Wollongong City Council to start a conversation with community and stakeholders about how the precinct might change over time.
From December 2023 to February 2024 we sought community and stakeholder feedback on the discussion paper. During this time the NSW Government held information sessions for the community and landowners where the project team was available to answer questions about the project and share information regarding its development.
The feedback we received will now help inform the next phase of the project, the development of a draft strategy, which is anticipated to be available for community feedback in late 2024.
Upcoming community and stakeholder engagement
The Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure is holding a webinar on 11 June 2024 from 5 pm to 6 pm to provide an overview of what the government heard during community and stakeholder engagement on the discussion paper, Shaping Wollongong Health Precinct Strategy (PDF, 6.5 MB).
You are invited to register to attend this webinar.
The department is preparing the draft strategy and will provide further information on engagement opportunities scheduled for later this year during the strategy's public exhibition.
