Round 2 of the Accelerated Infrastructure Fund was announced in April 2022. It provided $139 million to co-fund and accelerate the delivery of local infrastructure in high-growth areas of western Sydney. The grants helped support construction activity and the release of new homes and employment lands in greenfield areas where councils lead the delivery of local infrastructure.
Round 2 is accelerating the delivery of 24 local infrastructure projects worth $557 million in council-led precincts in western Sydney.
Round 2 projects will support the development of 38,000 new homes, create up to 2,200 construction jobs and unlock 570 ha of employment land dedicated to creating more jobs closer to home, according to councils’ application estimates.
Round 2 funding went to high-growth councils including Blacktown, The Hills, Hawkesbury, Penrith, Liverpool, Camden, Campbelltown and Wollondilly.
Funding has been allocated according to the anticipated growth in greenfield areas in each local government area, the amount of development that will occur because of the funding and the amount of co-funding the council can provide. Projects must be able to begin construction within 2 years of the announcement of the funding.
Project nominations were scored in consultation with an expert panel, including the department’s former Infrastructure and Place team. Transport for NSW was consulted for relevant projects.
