Crows Nest is one of six new stations for the Sydney Metro ‘City & Southwest’, which extends new metro rail from Chatswood, under Sydney Harbour, through the Sydney CBD to Bankstown.
The station was approved in January 2017 by the Minister for Planning as part of the State significant infrastructure (SSI) application for. the future Sydney Metro network, specifically the Chatswood to Sydenham section.
The concept application for an over station development (OSD) above the Crows Nest Metro station was approved in December 2020.
Sydney Metro is now seeking planning consent for the detailed design and construction an over station development (OSD) above the approved Crows Nest Metro station at Site C.
SSD project stages
The department has received the following application:
- Concept development application – Approved in December 2020
- Site C - Stage 2 proposal is on exhibition until 18 July 2021
Future stages, including Site A and Site B, will seek separate detailed SSD approvals prior to development of the Site A and Site B over station developments. These SSD applications will be subject to separate public exhibition periods and assessments.
Crows Nest Metro sites rezoning
To allow development of sites at and around the new Crows Nest Sydney Metro Station, the department held a separate (and parallel) strategic planning process to amend planning controls in the North Sydney Local Environmental Plan that apply to the new station sites.
Following an extensive assessment by the department, the Crows Nest Metro sites were approved in August 2020.
