The Accelerated Infrastructure Fund was launched in 2020 as part of the Planning System Acceleration Program. The program aims to speed up housing delivery in high-growth areas of NSW.
The fund's objectives are to:
- fund infrastructure to unblock development approvals and enable development activity and speed up the delivery of housing
- stimulate construction activity by investing in infrastructure projects that can be quickly brought forward
- encourage developers to act on development approvals and invest in construction
- encourage councils to bring forward the expenditure of local developer contributions to accelerate infrastructure delivery.
The funding was available for eligible councils, state agencies and utilities to complete delivery of various infrastructure projects such as roads, stormwater systems, electricity infrastructure, sewerage and public open spaces.
Combined with council contributions, $1.5 billion was invested to fund infrastructure that will unlock and support housing supply across NSW.
