Exciting new chapter for George Kendall Riverside Park
The ribbon is about to be cut to officially reopen George Kendall Riverside Park in Ermington following a $13.4 million investment from the NSW Government to revitalise this important public open space.
George Kendall Riverside Park is one of seven major projects delivered across Greater Sydney under the NSW Government’s $50 million Parks for People program, designed to provide essential infrastructure for local communities to enjoy now and into the future, in partnership with local councils.
Construction began at George Kendall Riverside Park in August 2023 with transformational works to improve, reshape and repurpose the expansive 27.2-hectare public open space.
An exciting new array of features have been added to the parkland to enhance its connection to the Parramatta River, expand recreational areas and improve site accessibility.
The final design leverages the park’s unique location and includes:
- Construction of new pathways leading up to a new hilltop lookout with panoramic views of the river.
- Improved nature trails to explore the foreshore and parkland with a dedicated recreation loop and family-friendly learn to ride area.
- Integration with the 40km Parramatta River Cycleway, with a dedicated pedestrian and separate cyclist lane.
- New arrival space supported by ample parking improving access for riders and walkers.
- Environmental enhancements with a new wetland constructed to capture and filter stormwater, and
- New tree planting for year-round shade and remediation of the site’s historic landfill.
As part of the Government’s commitment to address the housing crisis with the delivery of more well-located and well-serviced homes, it is also delivering vibrant and accessible public spaces to support better communities.
