Help shape the future of Wollongong’s Health Precinct

15 December 2023

The NSW Government is seeking community feedback on a discussion paper to help guide a development strategy for the future Wollongong Health Precinct.

‘Shaping the Wollongong Health Precinct, A discussion paper to guide a place-based approach for the future Wollongong Health Precinct’, was developed by the Department of Planning and Environment (DPE), in collaboration with NSW Health, Transport for NSW, and Wollongong City Council.

It provides a snapshot of the precinct, its strengths and opportunities, and identifies core principles and early directions that will guide the precinct’s development.

The Wollongong Health Precinct sits on Hospital Hill west of the Wollongong CBD and Wollongong Train Station.

Wollongong Public and Private Hospitals and Wollongong Day Surgery form the core of the future health precinct which will contain a mix of medical, community, commercial and residential uses.

Feedback on the paper will inform how the NSW Government develops the Wollongong Health Precinct Strategy, identified as Action 1 under the Illawarra Shoalhaven Regional Plan 2041.

This includes planning for more housing, upgraded and improved healthcare services and facilities, public open space and local transport improvements.

The paper will be open for feedback until February 2024. Several community and stakeholder workshops are also planned during this period including:

  • 18 December 2023: 5.30 – 7.00pm, online via Microsoft Teams (Targeted landowner session)
