Places to Play builds on the commitment of the Everyone Can Play program to support the delivery of adventurous spaces such as skate parks, pump tracks, skills parks and mountain bike trails.
Through the Open Spaces Program, Places to Play has provide $16.7 million in funding to 35 projects across NSW, delivering more public open spaces for adventurous play.
Adventurous Spaces guideline
Adventurous Spaces (PDF, 11 MB) is a practical tool for creating spaces to ride and roll to meet the growing demand for places to skate, scoot, BMX and mountain bike.
The NSW Government developed the guide with key stakeholders and industry experts to advocate for and create exciting adventurous spaces. The guide includes tools for planning, designing, delivering and managing quality adventurous spaces for communities throughout NSW.
The guide aims to bring adventure into public open spaces, allowing people of all ages and abilities to come together and enjoy the outdoors.
Adventurous Spaces Insights report
The Adventurous Spaces Insights report (PDF, 7.9 MB) has informed the Adventurous Space guide through a combination of public surveys and case studies which provide an understanding of the benefits, barriers and gaps in the participation and provision of adventurous spaces.

Pilot project – Bingara Long Run Skate Park
The NSW Government has committed $450,000 to an innovative skate park in Cunningham Park, Gwydir Shire. The facility accommodates users of all ages and includes a perimeter pump track, an inner skate area and supporting amenities.
The skate park and pump track was designed with young people in the region and aims to provide more recreational activities for local residents and visitors.
This project was completed and opened in June 2024.
