Penalty Notice issued to Liddell Coal Operations Pty Ltd

(DA305-11-01) Muswellbrook Shire LGA

On 9 March 2023, NSW Planning issued a $15,000 Penalty Notice to Liddell Coal Operations Pty Ltd (LCO) for a blast was fired on 11 June 2021 at the Liddell Coal Mine, which generated significant blast fume. LCO failed to implement all reasonable and feasible management measures to minimise blast fume emissions. LCO have revised their blasting practices to ensure blast fume is minimised.

Penalty Notice issued to Valmec Australia Pty Ltd

(SSD-11437498) Broken Hill City LGA

On 14 March 2023, NSW Planning issued a $15,000 Penalty Notice to Valmec Australia Pty Ltd (Valmec) for undertaking activities at the Broken Hill Battery Energy Storage System which resulted in approximately 1300 sq metres being cleared outside the approved project boundary.  Valmec are currently undertaking consultation with relevant stakeholder to rehabilitate and remediate the area.

Official Caution issued to Lismore City Council

(MP07_0020) Lismore City LGA

On 10 March 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Lismore City Council for failing to comply with the approved blast operating hours at their Blakebrook Quarry. Lismore City Council have committed to improving procedures and re-educating staff.

Official Caution issued to Tronox Mining Australia Limited

(SSD-5012) Balranald Shire LGA

On the 14 March 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Tronox Mining Australia Limited for the construction of borrow pits along the Mineral Concentrate Haulage Road (MCTR), associated with the Atlas-Campaspe Mineral Sands Mine, which were not consistent with the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project. Tronox have since fully remediated the borrow pits. NSW Planning will continue to monitor the project and ensure compliance with conditions of the consent.

Official Caution issued to Riverina Oils & BioEnergy Pty Ltd

(MP07_0146) Wagga Wagga City LGA

On 17 March 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Riverina Oils & BioEnergy Pty Ltd (Riverina) for exceeding the annual refined vegetable oil limit during the 2022 reporting period. NSW Planning will continue to monitor the project and ensure compliance with conditions of the consent.

Fire Safety Order issued to 12 Darling Drive, Sydney

(SSD-6116) City of Sydney LGA

On 1 March 2023 the Department issued a Fire Safety Order to the owners of 12 Darling Drive, Sydney requiring the implementation of a series of ongoing fire safety management measures in accordance with a Fire Engineering Assessment for the building and the Building Code of Australia.

UPDATE: December 2024 – The works required under this order have now been completed.
